Sports Massage

What is a Sports Massage / Soft Tissue Release?

The process of manipulation of the soft tissue, including connective tissue, tendons, muscles, ligaments and fascia.  Sports Massage is designed to assist in correcting problems from overuse, underuse, strains and imbalance.  When faced with repetitive movements, the body can begin to overcompensate or adapt.

There is a limit, we’ll call it the ‘compensation zone’ that the body can cope with.  Exceeding this zone, the body will be overloaded, resulting in pain from dysfunction and restricted ranges of movement.  Used before and after exercise, manual manipulation can enhance performance, accelerate recovery and prevent injuries.

Some of the other benefits include:
  1. Release of muscle tension
  2. The removal of waste
  3. Reduced duration/discomfort from the DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)
  4. Improved posture and flexibility

Who can benefit?

The term Sports Massage unfortunately seems to have narrowed the perception of who can benefit from this type of treatment.  Yes, it is for Athletes in training, recovering from injury, or those who have reached a plateau in performance, regardless of age and level…. but also those who are more casual with these sporting activity, used as recreation or relaxation…. and those who do not part take in sports in any way.  The impact of leading a sedentary life style, not necessarily watching TV for hours on end, but seated in an office, working on a computer, extensive travelling, and carrying kids, are all the kinds of things that have a profound effect on posture and muscular balance.

This is a tailor-made treatment designed using the information you tell me and what we discover doing a postural assessment.
